Privacy Policy

Maker Numbers is a free Etsy profit calculator for handmade sellers. This policy explains, in plain terms, what stays on your device, what is sent to us, and what you can ask us to delete.

Maker Numbers is not affiliated with Etsy, Inc. Nothing you enter here is shared with Etsy, and we have no access to your Etsy shop or account.

Your calculation never leaves your browser

Every number you type into the calculator — prices, discounts, shipping, materials, labor time, hourly pay, fee rates — is processed by code running in your own browser. None of it is transmitted to our servers, and we cannot see it.

There is nothing to upload. The calculator does not accept files, and there is no CSV upload anywhere in this product.

What we store on your device

So the page still has your work when you come back, we use your browser's local storage. Local storage sits on your device; we do not read it remotely. Clearing your browser data removes all of it.

That is the whole list — these items and nothing else:

  • The draft of your current calculation, so you do not have to retype it.
  • An anonymous session id — a random string that lets us count sessions without identifying you.
  • Which layout variant of the page you were shown, so it stays consistent between visits.
  • Your analytics choice, so we do not ask again and so opting out survives a reload.
  • Which one-time messages you have dismissed.
  • Where you arrived from the first time you visited — the referring site and any campaign parameters in the link. It is kept so a signup can be credited to the right link, and it holds no identifier for you.
  • A short list of which usage events have already been counted in this session, so the same view is never counted twice.

Analytics

We measure how the calculator is used so we can improve it. Analytics never receives your financial figures, your email address, your shop name, or anything you typed in a free-text field.

What analytics does receive is limited to non-identifying, banded or categorical values, for example:

We use this to answer questions such as “do people fill in the labor fields?” — not to build a profile of you.

  • The name of the event, such as opening the batch section or copying a result.
  • A price band and a margin band rather than your actual price or margin.
  • Whether the result was profitable or not, as a yes/no.
  • Which fee options were selected, such as Offsite Ads on or off.
  • Device type, referring source and campaign parameters from the link you arrived on.
  • The anonymous session id described above.

Email and research answers

You can use the whole calculator without giving us anything. An email address is only sent to us if you choose to fill in the early-access form and tick the consent box.

If you do, we store what you submitted: your email address, what you make, your listing and order ranges, the tool you use today, your optional description of your biggest problem, whether you offered to share sample data or take part in a research chat, and the date of your consent. We use it to contact you about the product you expressed interest in and to understand who we are building for.

The accuracy feedback question after the result works the same way: answering is optional, no email is required, and the free-text answer is stored separately from analytics events. Please do not include customer names, addresses or order numbers in it — we do not want them.

Who else sees this

We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. The only third parties involved are the service providers that host the site, store leads and run analytics on our behalf, and they process it only for us.

Your choices

You can decline analytics, and the calculator will work exactly the same way. The switch that does it is at the foot of this page, under “Your analytics choice”.

Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link, and you can reply to any of our emails to opt out.

You can ask us to delete your lead record — your email address and the research answers you submitted — and we will remove it. Clearing your browser data removes everything stored on your device.

How long we keep things

We keep lead records while this experiment is running and for as long as we may reasonably contact you about it, unless you ask us to delete yours sooner. Analytics events are aggregate and are retained without any identifier that points back to a person.

Children

This is a tool for people running a shop. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect, we will update this page and the date at the top. Continued use after a change means the updated policy applies.

Contact and deletion requests

To ask a question, request a copy of what we hold, or have your lead record deleted, email hello@makernumbers.com. Please write from the address you signed up with so we can find the right record.

Not affiliated with Etsy

Not affiliated with Etsy, Inc. Etsy is a trademark of Etsy, Inc., used here only to describe what this calculator estimates.

Your analytics choice

This is the control the policy above describes. It takes effect immediately, it is stored on this device only, and the calculator behaves exactly the same either way.

Usage analytics on this device

On

Usage analytics is on. Events carry only the banded, non-identifying values listed above.

Your choice is remembered on this device until you change it.
